I purchased this item to use with my ipod to connect to my a/v receiver via optical. I qould have rated it better if it worked, but it hasn't since. I will leave an update when I contact tech. support at Belkin or Amazon.

I should have listened to other reviews from various sites, but I didn't. Shame on me. This cable started falling apart two weeks after I received it. It completely broke three weeks later. It's not very durable at all. I would definitely recommend something else.

This is a good product for what it does, mainly provide a way to connect a Mac or AirPort to a digital optical audio port on a receiver. However, after purchasing this, I've since discovered that there are better places to buy a 6' digital optical cable and a cheap adapter. It won't be white, but there are larger problems in life. The converter is also a little flimsy on this, so be careful!.
UPDATE 4/17/07 : The connector finally broke after very light usage. Do not buy.

Boom tube Speakers Great Sound........2007-08-24
I bought these speakers to use in my Massage Therapy Practice. They sound is great, and they come with the drawl string bag they fit nicely into, which fits well in my tables cover side pocket. I rate these as 5 stars and I think they are, but the wire thing is a little much at first when you should be able to setup your table and dress it and everything else you will use for giving a massage in less than 1.5 minutes. So I took 3 different color markers and colored the wires, for faster setup. Red for right, Blue for left, and Black for input. And if you fix the three wires together on one end about 4 inches from the end you will have them together to plug into the back of the control unit much easier.

This set is garbage. One of the speakers died on me within a week, and the 'sub' seemed to be nothing more than a hollow tube. Bass? I think they meant bass like the fish, because the sounds coming out of this thing were similiar to the sounds a gutted fish makes.
I thought it would be a nice addition to my ipod, but it was nothing more than a paper weight.

I bought mine for $20 from FYE . It sounds pretty good , though it isnt really that loud. Nice because you can separate the speakers far apart to really notice stereo separation. Its supposed to have fairly good battery life but there is one important design flaw. When storing this unit in its storage pouch makes it very easy to accidentally turn on. It happened to me the first time i put it in the pouch. it should have a hold or a switch that is different. It would be nice if they offered a sleeve to fit over the unit to cover the switch when storing unit.

These speakers are tiny but they sound VERY good. I have listened to many small speakers that claim to sound good but these sound miles better than any set I have heard at an electronics store or at an Apple Store hooked up to an iPod. Although it does not come with an AC adapter, it was a small matter of taking the unit to Radio Shack and getting one for less than 10 dollars. I have no idea why anyone would be disappointed with this product. If battery life is a problem, get rechargeable batteries. The battery lid is a bit flimsy but the unit as a whole is quite solid, sturdy and well built. The most important element of a speaker is the sound and this unit gets the job done: bottom line.

We recently ordered this item directly from Home Decorators Collection. We should have ordered directly through Amazon. Based on the item description and pictures of the product both on the internet and in a Home Decorator's mail catalog, we purchased the stand in walnut color. After all, all our wood in the house is walnut. It took three weeks for delivery and when we opened the box (which was damaged) the stand was redish/orange. It looked like a picnic table, not walnut brown. In addition, the stain was awful. Numerous visible streaks and in some places it was stained heavily and others barely any stain. It certainly wasn't worth $299. If you order this product, order through Amazon! We did not and even though the item is misrepresented, we will not get a refund on our shipping ($30+) and we have to pay to have it shipped back! It will cost us approximately $75 for nothing. Keep looking.
