A good option for listeners who prefer their stereo equipment to be heard but not seen, this pair of two-way 80-watt speakers installs conveniently in the ceiling, where they deliver a clear, full-bodied sound. Each speaker's mounting cutout measures 7.88 inches in diameter and sits 4.25 inches deep--an unobtrusive size that easily holds the speaker's 6.5-inch titanium-laminate cone woofer and 1-inch dome tweeter. The units are ideal for use as main speakers in your living room or secondary speakers in an adjacent room (when connected to the main receiver), or even as home theater surround speakers (rear left/right) when watching movies or listening to five-channel audio sources. Listeners will appreciate the 40 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response--which handles bass frequencies with ease--along with the white faceplate that blends easily into most ceiling surfaces (users can also paint the faceplate to match different-colored ceilings). In addition, the tweeters are located on swiveling mounts, so users can customize their angle to maximize the audio performance.
The speakers are relatively easy to install using a Philips screwdriver, utility knife, tape measure, and carpenter's level. However, it's difficult to move or reposition them once the cutout is made, so users are advised to take their time when determining the ideal listening location. The set also includes integrated dog-ear brackets for retrofit applications and a template/paint shield that can be used to make the initial cutout or protect the speakers when applying a new color. The speaker terminals accommodate up to 16-gauge speaker cable (not included), which JBL recommends for distances below 20 feet. The company advises using 12-gauge wires for speakers located between 20 and 30 feet from the receiver, and 10-gauge cable for distances above 30 feet.
It's the audio that impresses most, however. The speakers deliver rich, powerful sound that fills up a room. Whether your priority is to spread music throughout the house or make your home theater speakers disappear from sight, JBL's SoundPoint speakers get the job done.

it's pretty simple, you get what you pay for... no these won't be able to handle the loudest music with ease nor would i recommend them for home theatre surround...
however, they work perfectly fine for ambient sound throughout the house... in all i bought 3 pair; one for the kitchen, the master bath, and the utility room... utilizing some volume switches and an additional receiver connected to zone 2 on my master receiver and i couldn't be happier...
absolutely nothing wrong with these as long as you don't ask too much of them...

The speakers were easy to install and work well. For the size and price, they are a great deal. The bass response is not great, but that's not what you are looking for in speakers like this. I'm not sure they would be worth the original price at $250, but at
<$100 they are well worth it.

Curutchfield charging ABOVE the MSRP.......2007-02-01
This is a great unit,. but it's really disappointing that Crutchfield is charging *higher* than the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the unit. Check out Sanus' web site. Home>Products> AV Foundations> Natural> NF206. You'll see a MSRP twenty dollars less than what Crutchfield is charging. Very disappointing. I usually come to Amazon to save moeny, not be overcharged.

Stand looks great next to a wall, but looks even better in a corner. Very nice unique look... not your "cookie-cutter" type box stand. Easy to assemble and very sturdy.
A classy way to show off your gear.......2006-06-05
When upgrading my stereo recently I was in the market to replace an old falling apart Kmart stereo rack, so I wanted the new one to look good, and this unit certainly does. The open look, the nice wood, and glass shelves are very classy, and the openness provides unusually good ventilation for your components. Of course, you pay for the looks. The price has actually dropped about $100 since I first saw it in my Crutchfield catalog, but it's still pretty expensive. I suspect that those six pieces of tempered glass are a significant portion of the cost.
The shelf openings are quite good-sized, enough for any component you're likely to come across (except the bigger-than-a-breadbox Denon 5805!). The construction is very solid. The heavy, tempered-glass shelves don't rest on the metal rods that connect the front and back (as it might look in the photos) but in wide notches in the rear support and well-fitted grooves in the front, and they are very stable. The overall unit DOES wobble a bit back-to-front, this really is inevitable with no side bracing. It's not an issue with stereo gear but I don't know that I'd want to perch a TV on that high top shelf. Sanus also makes matching low-boy units that would be better for a TV.
Also, there are NO CASTERS, even as an extra-cost option. This makes hookup of your gear potentially difficult, because turning the (heavy) stand for temporary access to the back of your (heavy) components would be just about impossible, and possibly injurious to your floor, as the unit is supplied. Get some of those "Magic Sliders" Teflon furniture feet. Amazon has them, or your local hardware store. I used the small round stick-on size, two discs on the rear leg, one each in the front, for my hardwood floor, and they worked like a charm. On carpeting you might want the bigger ones. I would call these a NECESSITY for this item.
The integrated wire-management system, consisting of holes in the rear support and plastic covers which bend into notches on the back of the support to cover the wires, is really nice. Only problem is, it's not big enough. I am using this stand with a Denon 2807 receiver, plus a turntable, cassette deck, VCR, CD player, DVD player, and laserdisc player (plus five speakers, and a TV on its own stand). This gear all fits on the shelves handsomely with plenty of room to spare, but the wiring to the receiver BARELY fits through the cutouts in the rear support, and the wire cover is nowhere near big enough to fit over it all. This is especially true if you use heavier-gauge interconnects like Monster Cable makes, pretty likely if you are spending this kind of money for a stand. But even without the wire-management system's cover on, being able to route the wires through the holes in the rear support keeps them somewhat tamed and pretty well out of sight, so it's still a great feature.
I found assembly quite straightforward even though there were some minor inaccuracies in the instructions provided.
Overall I'm delighted with this unit, and I recommend it (with the few reservations noted). It has made my home theater system worth showing off and a highlight of my living room.
Not suitable for turntable.......2006-01-25
It's pretty (I have the cherry one), but it will vibrate front to back, and there's no way to brace against this. To make things worse, mine seems to resonate with the turntable, so that once it starts shaking, it doesn't stop before bouncing the arm right into the air. (Think Tacoma Narrows Bridge.) Nice piece of furniture if you're all digital, though.
Stylish, but may be pricey.......2004-01-02
I bought this unit for its looks and it did not disappoint in this regard. It will show off your stereo equipment very nicely.
One thing to note is that the attractive three leg only design makes the tower rather wobbly, so beware of bumping against it if you have a phonograph on the top shelf! Also, when you are working around the back the exposed shelf edges will seek out your eye sockets.
The product is well packed and mine arrived in excellent condition.
The major drawback of this product is the retail price (and even the less than retail price I paid), which is quite insane unless you are totally in love with the looks. However, I note that the third party prices have dropped noticeably since, making this stand worthy of consideration for a larger group.
