i have the 2nd gen red nano and i know this product is meant for 1st gen, but i assume the problems are the same. i didn't have any problems with it staying on mine, but maybe it doesn't stay on the 1st gen...
this is basically just a sheet of strong plastic that you put over your ipod to keep it from scratching. although for a sheet of plastic 5 dollars is just crazy, it does work well for those who want to protect their ipod but don't like to have bigger cases on all the time. BUT, the reason why i gave this just 3 stars is because it can be SO frustrating to put on. if you care about how your ipod looks, like i do, it can be near impossible to get it on without air bubbles or dust underneath. after my first one ripped (because in a strange accident i stepped on my ipod in the street) i got a new one and it took me 10 or 15 frustrating minutes to get on ok. (have a clean lint roller handy to get junk off the sheet if you don't get it on perfectly the first time)
one other thing, you'll probably need to use a real case during physical activity. this is best just for everyday use.
if you're a decently coordinated, patient person, and it's important to have clear protection, get this.

I have used a number of different skins ranging in price and while this one is one of the cheapest, it's also the worst. The adhesive is not strong enough to remain stuck to the surface so even if you do remove any air bubbles, the overlay just pulls away after resting for a bit. I tried reapplying it a number of times with equal results.
I wish amazon sold the Power Support Crystal Film cover set, that's the one i had the best results with.
