Take your favorite music outdoors without losing precious fidelity with the JBL Northridge N24AWII weather-resistant bookshelf speakers. Designed for patios, porches, and other areas with a roof eve or awning, the speakers are ideal for lazy summer parties, wedding receptions, and other outdoor gatherings, as their JLB-exclusive Kapton voice coils and Heatscape motor structures provide rich, crisp audio without withering under intense heat or whipping wind. And should listeners not have a suitable outdoor environment--the speakers aren't waterproof, so uncovered areas aren't ideal--they can move inside and use them as bookshelf stereo speakers or rear speakers in a surround system. The speakers even come with individual brackets for mounting on a wall.

Each speaker includes a 0.75-inch titanium-laminate cone tweeter that reproduces high notes and dialogue at the peak of precision. The tweeter also boasts an oval orientation called Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS), which results in a wider horizontal dispersion of sound. The idea is simple: turn every seat, no matter where it's located, into the best seat in the house or yard. Meanwhile, the mids and lows radiate from the professionally engineered 4-inch WeatherPlas cone woofers. Additional audio enhancements include FreeFlow flared ports that minimize distortion and thump and a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network that divides the audio signal with minimal processing for a better overall sound.

The N24AWII's technical specifications include a maximum recommended amplifier power of 100 watts, a frequency response of 75 Hz to 20 kHz, and a crossover frequency of 3,000 Hz. Audiophiles will also appreciate the sturdy five-way binding posts, which both provide a variety of secure hookup options and preserve the nuances of the source music.

The JBL speakers did not perform anywhere close to my expectations. Given then they are bookshelf speakers I was not expecting concert hall quality, but they produced a tinny sound with weak top and bottom ranges. The old speakers they were to replace were far superior. I returned them the next day.

I had always been pleased with JBL products, but these speakers do not meet the traditional standards of JBL products.

Great value and highly versatile speaker.......2007-03-27

I purchased a pair of these speakers for the surrounds in a 5.1 channel living room system. I mounted the speakers slightly above ear level on the back wall, behind the couch, facing forward.
These are very good direct-radiating speakers for the money. They are not too big and fairly lightweight. They will blend into your white/off-white wall. The included wall brackets mounted easily and securely into the wall studs (you need to buy your own screws). The mounting brackets allows a great deal of aiming adjustments.
I have not seen any measurements for this speaker, however I did not hestitate to buy it. I have not heard anything other than neutrality, and I have full confidence in JBL as well as all Harman International brands. Harman has the most sophisticated measurement and testing facilities in the United States (if not the world), and they design speakers based on science. Trained listeners then evaluate the speakers in blind tests where the speakers are repeatedly rotated in and out of position behind a screen. I'm not saying these particular JBL speakers were so tested, but the point is that you can be sure you are buying a quality loudspeaker--even when it is a satellite speaker that embodies numerous compromises. For example, Harman manufactures the speaker's drivers in house. Such economies of scale allow them to offer a high quality product with which smaller manufacturers simply cannot compete.
A nice feature of these speakers and all JBL consumer speakers I believe, is the waveguide around the tweeter. Essentailly a horn, this improves horizontal directivity beyond the stereo sweetspot.
Again, I have mounted these speakers indoors and cannot comment on their weather resistance.
In summary, I would not hesitate to recommend these speakers to someone for an application similar to mine where room size, budget, and spousal acceptance preclude larger rear surounds.

Since they only now have CD-R's in the 100 packs from Moser Baer of India (Dye # 6) and Daxon of Malaysia (Dye # 7). I chose Daxon over Moser Baer of India because they can only read in some of my CD players.

TDK makes a very reliable blank CD-R that can handle up to 80 minutes of music or 700 megabytes of data. These blank CD-Rs can record data at very high speeds. The data I record onto these CD-Rs has now lasted for years. I have used these as data discs and discs to record various types of audio files including MP3s. I almost never get a coaster.

The CD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data or music onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your CD-Rs that have anything stored on them.

Two warnings:
1) Don't write on the CD-R itself with a Sharpie ink pen. The ink seeps through slowly but surely and this could easily damage your data, music or whatever is stored on the disc. If you label the disc, label it using a post-it note.

2) Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in a hot place. CD-Rs hate the heat! Heat can cause damage to your discs so keep them in a relatively cool place. The cooler the storage place, the better.

When burning the disc, don't be surprised if you see the data being recorded at speeds of less than 52x. This may be a quirk; I am not sure. However, it only means a minute or two of extra time to burn the disc--it's well worth it and I wouldn't aggravate myself too much over this.

Overall, TDK blank CD-R discs store data reliably over time and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at the very highest speed advertised.

quality I need.......2007-12-09

Price I need, Quality I need. I used to buy store brands, but they have recently started not reading. They're changing colors and even though they've been kept in a dark, folder, no scratches, many can no longer be read. I purchased these (store brands) locally and am in the process of trying to save them.

Still my favorite CD-R.......2007-10-22

I've been using TDK CD-R's since the 1990's. They have always proved reliable and readable by most CD players including my car's CD changer. Burns perfectly on my PowerBook G4 on max. speed.

When I first bought a TDK CD-R drive, I gave these CDRs a test drive. I've since bought several dozen spindles because they're very reliable. Of course, I've had the occasional coaster, but then again I've used dozens of CDR brands in my life and have never made it through a spindle without making a few coasters- that's just life.

I've had great success with the TDKs and will likely continue to buy them without any hesitation, but I really feel the need to point out that your experience could be different.

It's important to realise that recordable drives and discs have widely varying compatibility. One type of disc may work nearly perfectly with a certain drive, but fail miserably with another. Even though I've had great success with TDK discs in my TDK drive, I won't be surprised if I change drives and need to switch discs.

My sincere recommendation is that you start with small quantities until you find the right match for your drive. Buy a few single discs or perhaps a ten pack. Once you're confident that the discs are working well with your drive then you can start buying the 50 and 100 spindles. Sure, you may lose the "bulk discount" for the one or two "test" discs but you're saving yourself from losing an entire spindle of possibly incompatible discs.
