Great...for the money.......2007-12-26
I was replacing a pair of vintage(old) Sansui speakers.They sounded OK but looked their age.I had a small room and budget to match.The Polk R50's filled the gap!They have a small footprint,Nice cabinet work(cherry),and great(for the $,under $100 each)sound.I found they need a break-in period so give them some time before judging.The bass is OK but I am using a PSW with them.If you buy these right(FRYS.com,on sale) I think you will be satisfied.

These sound great! Even at very low volume. The outside construction is perfect. Not one knick, dent; seam out of place...nothing. I'm glad I got the cherry (it's a very light cherry) it looks classier than the black ones. I like the look of the front port as well. The speaker would look plain without it. I can't believe these were $130 delivered for a pair. Fry's seems to be the only one selling them now. I got the r300's a while back at the same price. They are good, but these are better. They have a lot more bass. I don't need to turn my sub on for regular T.V. or music use. For movies I do. At less than 100 watts the bass distorts bad. The highs are clear as a bell. If I were intent on making myself deaf (or a teenager) I would set the cutoff HZ at somewhere around 60hz-80hz and use a sub. I didn't test this though. I like these is because they sound good right out of the box. Also the price and looks!
Tight & smooth sounds.......2007-01-03
R50s are NOT the best speaker set and will NOT outperform far more expensive speakers like some like to claim, but their sonic quality have unique characters that are unusual in starter speaker class such as fairly large sound stage, smooth mid, fairly tight bass. Sound is smooth & relaxing rather than bright & harshly detailed which can be fatigue. Unless you are a fan of boomy sounds, you would be fine without a separate subwoofer speaker though a good sub can be a great help on sources emphasized on bass. On top of these unusual qualities, the look & feel are also great for the price.

I bought these speakers about 3 months ago. You find a better sounding speaker for a mere $50 bucks. When I first got them I wasn't impressed at all with the sound. They were too bright and the bass was non-existent.
After two weeks of breaking them in the mids and highs mellowed out and the bass really opened up dramatically. Now the sounds is nothing less than amazing. No need for a sub woofer with these bad boys. Everything from Jazz to Hard rock sounds superb. They can handle high volumes with ease. I can crank up the receiver all the way and they don't even have a hint of distortion. I really couldn't be happier. Wonderful speakers at a price that's too good to be true. If you go to the Polk website the list price is $635 for the pair so getting them brand new for $50 bucks is an outrageous deal.
They also look very nice. They have a small footprint so they don't take up a lot of space. They have real wood veneer which looks terrific. The bass port at the bottom is a little funky looking, but you get used to it. Hats off to Mr. Polk for creating a high end speaker at a budget price that the little guy can afford and enjoy.

The Simultaneous Recording function can record programs on both DVD and VCR decks from the same input source. Additionally, it allows recordings from two different programs on two separate media. The Auto Repeat function is very convenient when constant or repeated video playback is required such as when DVD discs are used for company receptions or storefront demos. Live Memory function lets you playback scenes to check any performance, and video can be recorded from a camcorder to the DVD-RAM, enabling simultaneous recording and playback, making it great for a physical education setting. A remote input terminal (3.5mm miniplug) allows connection of a wired remote control unit if you need to control the unit from a distance. Digital archiving onto DVD from existing analog tapes (e.g. S-VHS/VHS) is easy on the SR-MV45, making it ideal for educational use. Finally, the SR-MV45 memorizes the last function in its memory and resumes operation from that point. Even if the power is turned off at the end of the day, mode settings remain valid and will be automatically recreated, making this feature especially handy for use in professional video editing studios.
