Don't Buy This, Because It Doesn't Work.......2007-05-13
Like the other single reviewer here, I bought this through Amazon and found that IT NEVER WORKED.
Maybe this third-party product by Madcatz for the Playstation 2 (PS2) does not work work certain models, but I have the model it specifies on the box and it didn't work when I tried it. When I plugged the unit into my PS2, the PS2 cooling fan turned on high and kept running until I unplugged the product. The audio stopped working until I unplugged the product. The controllers did not work with this product in the PS2.
I don't know how Madcatz ever came to produce this product. I can only imagine that it worked with the first model of the slim PS2. I have the Playstation 2 model number SCPH 77001, for the NTSC (North America) region, and it is the slim model as the box says the product is for. I have no idea why it never worked, but I've obviously wasted my seven dollars, and what's worse is I feel like an idiot for buying the thing.

If this piece from Madcatz had worked at all it would have been held in a higher regard. I received one, brand new, for my December birthday and was excited to use it for the first time with my Slim PS2. I have three friends and none of them like to watch other people play.
Unfortunately when this multiport was in, the way the undetailed instructions demonstrate, I had problems. My gaming system (that has never had problems at all) became fussy about either reading brand new, just opened, discs or providing sound for the games. As soon as this multiport was removed, it cleared up the issue.
I checked the package several times hoping to discover that it was just not for the slim PS2 or was in some other way incompatible... but it was the appropriate design and fit, as labeled. Therefore, this product from my experience gets a whopping 1 star for being a good gift... in theory.

Is anyone at Mad Catz-Game Shark at home?.......2007-12-26
First off, the product description here at Amazon is incorrect. According to the box, this unit "works with ALL PlayStation 2 consoles." This is a word-for-word quotation from the back of the box. It may be designed specifically for the slim Playstation 2 models, but it is also designed for the normal models. There is a button to push that allows the input of this multi port product to slide into the position for either shape of model.
Secondly, I haven't gotten the product to work correctly yet. It's doing the same thing the other Mad Catz-, Game Shark-brand multi-port adapter did. I plug in the multi-port to my slim-model Playstation 2, which is the model number 77001, and the fan turns on high and the system crashes. Then, the power shuts down. I have no idea why.
For the information of the customers of Amazon, the friend who bought this product for me for Christmas got it from a local Best Buy store. The date on the product is 2007, which is the Christmastime I write this article. This fact excludes the possibility of my Playstation 2 model being produced after the release of this Mad Catz, Game Shark multi-port product.
Although it is the 26th day of December, I can't get through to the technical department at Mad Catz-Game Shark. The number provided on the back of the box of this product sends me to an answering machine which, before "the beep," tells me that the technical service department is "at lunch." This is strange, because, in Pacific time where the service department is located, I tried calling multiple times from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Yet, the woman in the message tells me that department is open from 8 to 12 and from 1 p.m. into the afternoon.
I guess lunch time for the technical service department happens to be during their open hours, if I assume that December 26th is a work day in which the technicians would be taking their lunchtime. If it is not a work day, then the technicians are at lunch even though they don't work. The trouble with the latter possibility is that I don't care if technicians are having lunch when they are off from work. To me, the "off work" thing kind of means it doesn't matter when those technicians are at lunch.
Here's the phone number I called appearing on the back of the box: "1-800-659-2287 (USA)." Another number appears underneath that number: "1-619-683-2815."
I had added this product to my Christmas list after reading the words "works with ALL PlayStation 2 consoles," and because it has a five-foot extension cord before the four-port hub--meaning, the unit extends all four controllers by its five-foot cord. The unit sounds like an ideal product, if one can get it to work!
I must clarify a main point before ending my article here. Before calling Mad Catz-Game Shark technical department, I used the website address on the box of the product. It wasn't any more helpful than the 800 number I called.
