Wolff is right. Better than DiscSavers or any CD boxes, if you want boxes........2007-11-21
My first choice for archiving discs is the Case Logic Prosleeve 'ring binder'. Ring binder storage takes way less space than boxes. With the mid-sized Prosleeve binder below, each sleeve can be individually removed so the disc has protection when you are using it, and the whole thing can be put in a file cabinet or on a shelf like a book. I have 3 Prosleeve binders: one for the factory originals when there is one, and 2 for backup copies--each copy using a different brand and stored in a different location. (Click 'see all my reviews' if you want to find my opinion on the best brands of archival CD and DVD to use.) Each Prosleeve holds 2 discs, one on each side. Buy extra sleeves and you can probably fit over 100 discs in each binder.
***Not to be confused with typical CD folders that are not 'ring binders' and do not have removable envelopes.***
ProSleeve® II CD/DVD Refillable Sleeve Binder, Zippered, 60 CD Capacity, Black (CLGPSBS60)
However, if you prefer indidual cases, then these Scotch Shades are as thin as the thinnest and stronger than the strongest. They and the DiscSavers are both 'rubbery' so they don't tend to shatter the first time you drop them--or the hundredth time.
I found them while searching for some kind of semi-rigid sleeve, just a tad better than a paper envelope, for carrying around or giving away individual discs. However everything in that category had problems. One such plastic envelope is by a major manufacturer but if you read the reviews, can leave a film that destroys the disc. One advantage of hard cases is that if the manufacturer makes a mistake on the chemicals in the plastic, the disc is not hugging the plastic quite so closely. (However the Prosleeve envelopes have a fabric cushion and hopefully they are careful about their reputation. I would buy only Prosleeve brand refills and not other brands.)
For 20c each, these are a bit more pricey than for my needs. However the second-best options 'DiscSavers' are also 20c each. As for those 'clamshell' types? Very similar in concept but the rounded shape is just not so nice for stacking or standing on a shelf.
Don't be turned off by Wolff's note about an occasional faulty clasp. As Wolff implies, it's a shame they don't make it more perfect. But that's still nothing compared to the frequent broken hinges on most jewell cases. As for the DiscSaver--the edges are rather open. The DiscSaver is more pleasant to use in that it opens and closes more easily. I also prefer the more see-through look of the DiscSaver. Just plain nice to handle when you get used to them. But for stacking on the shelf, they tend to flop open a bit and are not nearly so sturdy.
If you can buy the DiscSavers for 10c each, then I would recommend them. They are certainly good enough. But currently they are both about 20c. So price being equal, I would go with the more protective Scotch Shades.
Nice CD cases if Amazon restocks them.......2006-08-31
These are nice cases....great for mailing, they close better than some of their competitors.
The design of the case allows weight to be distributed along a the outer surface. IE its fairly well designed to be crush proof for the contents.
I've compare these to Discsaver brand....and while the design is different and its possible the Discsaver brand is tougher, but if I looks again I think these are a bit harder, and will likely deflect a puncture from mailing a bit better. More importantly I have had a major problems with Disksavers with the middle core getting worn or damaged. IE the Disksaver often fail to snap shut tighly as they are designed.
This is a design weakness and once the design fails you can not tighten up the case....so the clamshell on the Discsaver can just flop open.
These Scotch brand ones don't have any wear issues. The lack of defects and near close shock proof make me want to buy these, again.
Now if Amazon will only restock them.
I use these by the hundreds and these are good.
Update. I have found that Scotch has done a minor redesign of these. The original clasp was tad bit better. I have found if they don't close tightly I can put a small flat screwdriver put it where it clasps....give a quick twist...it will tweak the plastic and make it a very good close. I am somewhat a perfectionist on a tight close...because I use them in mailing....and I am just fine that I can tweak them to make the marginals into a tight close. Something I have attempted many times with discsaver brand but can not do.
The only other downside is one of the colors is hot pink....which when I mail them I always hope the guy has girl to hand it off to.
And if you read all the way down here....if Amazon restocks these at the 100 for 18 dollars price again...they are as good as it gets.

Best for those who hit with consistency.......2004-10-24
I've had my Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour XL for 2 months/12 rounds and it works as advertised. I really like it. On par 3's my playing partners wait for my yardage call. I usually sight in on the flag but slopes, bunkers, and trees work well also. The flag becomes quite small sighting from around 200 yds, and I usually find sitting down helps me steady the rangefinder better when sighting the flag at longer distances (sighting bunkers are no problem). This is a great device for driving ranges, and it is now much easier to play courses I've never played with better scores because my approach shots are stopping closer to the hole. Now I usually don't bother consulting course posted yardages and this speeds up play. A golfer who hits most shots solidly would probably benefit most from this device (my hdcp index is 3-5). Also, this model uses a common 9 volt battery which costs about $1. After numerous trips to the driving range,I have not changed batteries yet. So far, it is rugged enough to be unaffected by all the jostling it gets. Long term durability is unknown. Currently you can't use this device in tournaments because it is illegal under USGA rules. We hope in the future that the USGA will listen to common sense and allow range finders because yardages on golf courses have become common knowledge. Most amateur tournaments give front/back to green and pin yardages and pro caddies always use exact measurements to bunkers, pins, and greens. With this device you will always swing knowing the exact yardage.
Works great...but too big.......2004-07-27
Very cumbersome to use. It is so big you have use both hands to hold it steady, you also have to remove your hat because it will not fit under the bill of a golf/baseball hat. Forget about putting it in your pocket or clipping it onto your belt....you would not be able to swing. I felt like I was bird watching on the course the few times I used it...though it did provide accurate yardages.
Excellent--BUT.......2004-03-10
This is an excellent device that gives accurate distances on the golf course. It will measure to the pin, a bunker, or any other surface perpendicular to the direction in which you want to go.
BUT.....
The on off switch is positioned in such a way as to be activated when the unit is in its case. So the only way to prevent it from eating batteries is to either not use the case, or to paste a thick washer around the switch to prevent the case from contacting it.
Range Finder Designed for Golf.......2004-01-08
My golf partner had this particular model and I became dependant on playing with him. When we were not playing together, I could estimate fairly close to the distance, but sometimes frustrating when I was off. Many range finders that are on the market were not designed for golf, but for hunting. It was too difficult for many of them to determine distance using the flag stick. Before I purchased this range finder, I did some research to find the best device for the least cost, and one that was designed specifically for golf. I first purchased a less expensive model, however even on par 3s, it had trouble ranging on the flag. Not a problem with this model. It is outstanding! Many golf shops sell this model for $400+tax. Stop by a few of your local golf shops, ask for this model number, and check out their price, then go back on line and order one for $125 less. If you want a range finder that was designed specifically for golf, you will not be disappointed. It's a great deal, and worth the investment.
How to fix battery problem.......2003-12-30
My new Bushnell range finder is a super investment and does everything I need very well. An earlier review referenced a battery problem when put in the case, the case presses the "on" button and runs the battery down. I had this problem but fixed it by glueing a garden hose washer (just exactly the right size) around the button, this keeps anything but my finger away. my problem is solved
