BE Cautious before buying!.......2007-12-11
I have owned several underwater cameras, and the cons outweigh the pros.
PROS: Small & light; conversation starter; always accessable; decent pix
CONS: Doesn't always work - no reason why it works sometimes and not other times (works fine if you take it out of the case); does not turn on sometimes; Batteries die fast in the cold;
OVERALL, more frustrations with it than happiness, hence the low rating.
A Lot of Uses in a Small Camera.......2007-12-11
I am giving this four stars because for me it has been very useful. I've been teaching SCUBA for years. I found this camera to be a lot of help when I'm training studnets in a pool. I can film students performing exercises (and show it back to them if they are having a particular problem with a skill). The students also like looking at the videos of themselves in dive gear swimming around the pool. It provides an inexpensive way to critique students but it also lets the students say "Hey...that's me! I'm diving!"
I have also taken it on open water dives but if visibility is poor then the camera is useless. It worked out well on not-so-deep dives (to about 10 meters or less) on sunny days with good visibility. This is what it is: an inexpensive toy that can provide some useful videos to help with training, but it is also a light hearted way to have some fun and a few good laughs after a day of diving.
In two decades I've never bought a dive camera because it was one more thing to hassle with on dives and trips. This is inexpensive and simple to use. It leaves much to be desired for a serious photographer or someone who wants more quality in a camera, but for what I use it for it was well worth the price.
Kudos - GREAT CAMERA FOR THE PRICE.......2007-11-09
Great Camera for the price. I used on a whitewater rafting trip and it took great pics and videos. I did have a problem with the camera after loaning to another passenger on the trip. IF YOU WANT A COMPANY WITH GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE - THIS IS THE CAMERA TO BUY!!! The company went well beyond customer service to not only replace camera but also helped in retrieving my pics from a bad SD Card.
Don't buy this camera!!!.......2007-11-07
Please, do not buy this camera. The Digital Hero, was my most foolish purchase in many years. If there is sun or bright light or glare, forget about it, if it is a gray day, well the photos are not much better. Frequently pressing the shutter release causes nothing to happen, despite patiently waiting for the LONG delay between pressing the button and taking the picture, when it does work. And then there are those mystery photos, where the horizon looks like a waterfall! It is a fixed focus camera, so nothing ever seems quite in focus. Reds bleed, bright objects bleed, I have seen better photos come from a cell phone. The toyish gimmicky wrist mount is cumbersome and awkward. I am comfortable and accomplished with a camera, have won several awards for underwater photography, but this camera is USELESS! I naively thought this would be a good way of taking snapshots in a kayak, I was wrong. A housing for my old Canon A10, would have been better. The cheapo drugstore 35mm for $19.99, that I used to take kayaking, did better. An Olympus 720 is not much more money, but FAR BETTER. Don't think I am being too critical, this thing really is garbage. I bought 80 or so photos in to work, seeking the opinions of people, perhaps less discriminating, all agree the Hero is a ZERO!
Update, on about the fourth attempt to use, the case broke, making it useless for underwater!
Go Pro Digital Hero 3.......2007-11-01
Quality is awesome for something so small and at the price too... compare it with products twice it's price!!!

Excellent optics.......2006-11-30
I also own Swarovski and Leica binoculars and have used them extensively on my ranch in Montana in all conditions. I have been extremely happy with those products. I have preferred the Swarovski over the Lecias as they tend to be lighter and just feel better to me.
It was time to add another pair to my collection so I figured I would give the top end Bushnells a try. I was extremely surprised with the performance of these binoculars. They are very light in weight (lighter than the other brands) and do perform as well, if not better, than the other optics I have. In general they compete very well with the Swarovski and Leica optics and given they are so light in weight - they now have become my primary pair and visitors to the ranch get to use the others.
They perform excellent in low light and I have yet to have a fogging problem with them.
Maybe it's just me, but I did not notice much difference between the 12.5x compared to the 10x Swarovskis - so you decide. I did a side by side test and the extra 2.5x does not make that big of a difference. But hey, bigger has to be better right? You should make the call on the trade off of more magnification vs wider field of view. I don't have a problem finding what I am looking for as my binoculars live with me on the ranch, but if you struggle with putting the binoculars up and then finding what you are looking for, the 10x might be a better choice for you. I trust the 10x Bushnells will be the same quality as the 12.5x ones I purchased.
I have been using 10x42 binoculars so I was worried going with x50 as they might make the overall size of the binocular a bit bulky, but this is not the case with these.
I try not to abuse optics in this price range, so I did not drop test them or let them ride in the back of the pickup for a rattle test. But in looking them over, they appear to be very well built and can stand up to abuse as well as the other brands.
The focus control, etc is quick and easy.
Overall I am very pleased with the product.
