Good cable, but beware of DVI-I.......2007-06-01
The cable appears to be solid and well-built, but I can't use it. Don't make the same mistake I did and think that because it handles both analog and digital DVI signals that you can use a DVI-I cable on a monitor with a DVI-D connector. They are incompatible - you can't physically plug the DVI-I connector into a DVI-D socket.

This DVI cable works well with my computer and lcd monitor. The cable is thick and appears to be solidly constructed. At ten feet, it can easily reach anywhere I need it to go, although it obviously can't span rooms (but why would you want to do that in the first place?), but it's certainly long enough for most set-ups. It's DVI-I so it has good compatibility with both DVI-A and DVI-D connectors and it's dual-link so it will provide the maximum amount of bandwidth. You won't need another digital cable for video until all connections go HDMI - and even then, you could still use an adapter to make use of this cable.

The Nikon Coolpix 3100 is a great choice for digital photography beginners, offering a compact size, 3.2-megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, and a bevy of automated scene controls that are customizeable.
One of the most impressive features of the Nikon 3100 is its size. From the online pictures we originally viewed, we imagined it to be large and a bit clunky. And while it's a bit chunkier than other sleeker cameras, the 3100 is surprisingly small. Plus, the rounded ergonomic hand grip rested comfortably and securely in our hand.
The Nikon 3100 offers a whopping 14 scene modes that automatically set the camera's white balance, exposure, and focusing point for different situations. The easy-to-learn software system features large icons and text to guide you through your choices. And some of the modes even provide an "assist" feature, with outlines of figures or landscapes to help line up the shot.
We had fun playing around with the scene modes and snapping pictures that made the most out of the shooting environment. However, we felt we lost some spontaneity if we relied too much on switching through the modes.
The 3.2-megapixel CCD sensor captures bright images that can be printed up to 11 x 14 inches. The movie mode captures smooth video up to 640 x 480 pixels for 20 seconds (or a more jaggy 40-second, 320 x 240-pixel videos), but it doesn't offer any sound.
The Nikon 3100 is an affordable choice for a point-and-shoot camera that offers sharp, bright images and brings a lot of flexibility to the party. Big waste of money.......2007-03-18
Initially we were happy with this camera even though it only shot 20 pics until the NiMH AA rechargeables ran out of juice. But then it dwindled down to about 2-3 pics so we got a CR-V3 Lithium Ion rechargeable which increased it up to 20 pics again - for about 2 months. Then it dwindled back down to 2 pics per charge. In that time, on a trip to BC Canada the camera got stuck in that it wouldn't open its lens but wouldn't shut off either. It got really warm, fried the digital picture memory chip with all our trip pics on it. Then 3 months later, it died altogether. What a waste of money, time, and trip pics which we will never get to see.

when I bought this camera about 3 years ago, it was more like $300 and a year after I bought it, the bottom part of it, the latch that holds the batteries in broke!
I tried bringing it back to the store and they could not do a thing------I see that it has been discontinued and I think that is for a very good reason!

where's the Nikon quality?.......2006-08-31
I purchased this camera because of Nikon's past reputation. However, this camera started eating batteries after 3 months of operation. Further, the menu feature and delete features functioned erratically from the first day of use. I sent the camera in for repair under warranty. When returned, the camera was marginally better, with the menu feature as erratic as ever. And recently, the camera simply died. Total use was perhaps 300 pictures. I would not buy this camera again.
Low battery life and slow shutter, muddy prints.......2006-05-26
I really do not reccommend this camera. Frst of all, the battery life is extremely low. I can usualy go no more than 1/2 hour before I need to put in fresh batteries.
The print quality is terrible: all my mictures come out with muddy colors, no matter where I get them printed.
and the time it takes the shutter to open after I press the button is about 1.5 seconds: way too long if you are trying to capture a picture of a moving subject (like my two year old daughter).
I do not reccommend this camera at all.
