Optics and Resolution The DX7440 has a 4-megapixel resolution for 2304 x 1728 images and photo enlargements up to 20 x 30 inches. Other resolution modes include 2304 x 1536 (3:2 aspect ratio), 2048 x 1536 (3MP), 1656 x 1242 (2MP), and 1200 x 900 (1MP). The Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 4x optical zoom lens is also supplemented by a 4x digital zoom, for a 16x total. Working with renowned German professional optics designer Schneider-Kreuznach, Kodak equipped the camera with an f/2.8 - 9.5 aspheric lens to provide striking edge-to-edge brightness and sharpness across the frame.

More Features
The DX7440's precision low-light auto-focus system combines rapid phase detection with highly accurate through the lens (TTL) contrast detection to sharply define a subject, even in almost complete darkness. Continuous auto-focus also delivers rapid click-to-capture (0.2 seconds) to precisely freeze action at a desired moment. Selectable focus zones and exposure metering allow exacting control over each scene, while standard and fine JPEG compression settings give users more power over their file sizes and quality.
The DX7440 offers fully automatic mode for effortless point-and-shoot picture taking, as well as 16 automatic scene modes (e.g., sport, portrait, night, landscape, beach, snow, and macro) that help obtain the best shot in a variety of settings. In addition, manual control mode permits independent aperture settings, shutter speed (1/1000 to 64 seconds), exposure compensation and bracketing, and ISO equivalents for advanced photographers.
Storage and Transfer
Images can be stored within the DX7440's 32 MB internal memory, or on optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. It connects to Macs and Windows-based PCs via USB 1.1 connectivity.
Sharing
With a touch of the red-jeweled Share button, you can store up to 200 pictures in an on-camera digital album. These pictures can then be shared anytime on the camera's large, 2.2-inch, high-resolution (153,000 pixels) indoor/outdoor LCD screen. The Share button also allows selection of photos for printing and even e-mailing, with up to 32 e-mail addresses stored in the camera's memory.

Kodak's Color Science Image Processing Chip offers a new high-speed digital image processor, advanced algorithms, and hardware acceleration features that enable the DX7440 make simultaneous, split-second decisions to produce rich, vibrant, true-to-life colors in almost any lighting situation. Each time you click the shutter, the Kodak Color Science Chip performs an instantaneous and advanced analysis of collected scene data to identify and correct multiple factors that influence picture quality. Scene light source is detected and adjustments are made to capture bright whites and true, vivid colors under difficult lighting conditions--fluorescent, tungsten or daylight. Scene content is analyzed for luminance, focal distance, subject matter orientation and color to determine the correct exposure and capture the natural details, accurate flesh tones, and rich colors you see in your composition.

The camera is powered by a proprietary rechargeable lithium-ion battery (1050 mAh), which can be charged via the included battery charger or an optional EasyShare Camera Dock. It measures 4 x 2.7 x 1.6 inches and weighs 7.9 ounces without the battery.

Best Camera Ever!.......2007-10-19
I have had my camera for over 2 years now and I like it so well that I bought two more, one for my Mom and one for my Dad. I also recommended this camera to a friend and she loves it. We off road in Jeeps and this camera has been subjected to all kinds of things like dirt, mud and rain as well as being banged around over ruff terrain and it has never let me down. It takes excellent pictures and it doesn't have a delay when you take the picture like so many cameras have today. It's very easy to use and always takes a great picture.

I am not a camera guru and I HATE to read directions and try to remember ambiguous symbols on cameras that are crucial to set before taking a picture. That's why I love this camera. The purpose for any button you push appears in text on the screen. My pictures also come out great! The software is easy to use. I guess the only flaw I've found is that the digital zoom is a worthless feature. It is too blurry to use.

When I was camera shopping, I did not have Kodak in mind. I was thinking of the bigger players like Sony, Cannon, Nikon, ect but I love this camera!
1- It takes great pictures. A lot of cameras these days are 6 or 7 MP and a 4 MP camera sounds ancient. However, a 4 MP is way good and I actually put my settings to 3.1 MP. I developed it at the store at it look just as good as a 35 mm camera! Also, I can store a lot more pictures at 3.1 MP and am VERY satisfied with the image quality.
2- It's FAST. Takes the picture when you click the button! You do have to wait a few seconds to take another picture (there is a processing time) but I find this much more bearable than the initial lag that some cameras have.
3- It's very user friendly but offers other options for more advanced picture taking. You don't even have to read the manual to use the more advanced options- it's great.
One of the disadvantage is size. I was well aware of this when I bought the camera but I wanted something nice in my hand that I can hold. I now wish I would have gone with a thinner camera so it will fit in my pocket. I am younger (21) and when you're going out to clubs, you're usually not bringing a huge purse so the camera seems kind of bulky. However, I do like the feel of this camera much more than little ones. If I was middle-aged, I'd much rather have this one than the tiny ones. I have no problems with the size other than when I'm going out.
I did tons of research when I bought this camera and have 0 regrets. However, I will make other noteworthy concerns by other reviewers that I took into consideration when purchasing this camera.
1- the wheel is small and you need to push this little button simultaneously while turning. If you have large hands, it might be a problem. I am a small girl, so it works fine for me (not my father). Also, sometimes the wheel can be hard to move if you haven't used it in a long time. It's a delicate wheel, don't force it or it will break.
2- be careful when replacing the batteries. Many people have reported breaking the orange tab meant to put the battery in place when they replaced the battery. As long as you're careful and take your time, it works fine.
Good pictures, camera quality not so good.......2006-11-10
The Camera does take good pictures, and fast not like the cameras where you click and the subject is gone by the time the picture is taken (people with kids know what i am talking about) The bad things, if you take a picture from to far away ( more than 6 feet) and zoom in you get a grainy photo. Also, I would only recommend this to point and click people that arent interested in the best photos. Within a month the little thing that holds the battery in broke off and after about 8 months the dial is almost impossible to turn, seriously leaves welts embedded in your thumbs even if you succed in turning it on. IT would cost more to repair it then actually buy a new camera. I would never buy another one again. If your looking for a camera to last a long time this probably isnt it.
