Excellent card........2007-11-07
This card is top notch. I've installed it in my system as well as those of two of my friends. It is a few years old, and there are newer cards that are better, of course.
But if you want to get a great card without spending a fortune, THIS is the one you want.
Great card for a $xx price.......2006-05-16
I just got this card today and I must say that it is a HUGE upgrade from my Nvidia geforce FX5200. I run Far Cry on high settings just a little lag here and there but I am very happy with what I received. The Cataclyst drivers were a little hard to find, but the card has nothing to do with that. Overall, this is a great card for the price! I would definetly recommend buying it if you're on a budget of $xx.

this card works great until i upgraded to a AMD 64 bit prossessor with a MSI motherboard. Now it constantly flickers and freezes everytime i start a game. I also bought a 9550 thinking that the 9600 went bad and to my amazement it wasnt the card being bad. I will never buy another ATI product EVER AGAIN!! their CATALIST messed up my 9600 and same for the 9550!!
Great deal for gamers on a budget.......2005-02-20
I didn't really have a chance to shop around and had to choose between this, a X800, or a nVidia 6800GT, that was it. Given my income and rig (a P4 2.4) i didn't think bleeding edge was what the doctor ordered, so I said what the hell and ditched the old GF ti4600.
Well, ho-lee crap, what's that about an average 67fps in Half-Life 2 with all detail settings turned up, 4XAA, 8XAF @ 1024x768? MORE than happy with those numbers for the price. How about Doom3 at 800x600 detail medium-high at steady above 60fps? Not too bad for a 2 year old rig.
The Catalyst software suite is very nice, though since nVidia also makes great drivers these days it's kind of a moot point. One thing to note, using ATI's Overdrive utility I have experienced some system hangs, particularly in HL2. Switched to Powerstrip and now I've got it lethally Oc'd on factory cooling and stable as a coffeetable... go figure.
In short, this card will run any of the current gen of games well enough for 99.9% of gamers. With full DX9 compatability, it's even got a shot at next-gen titles. Highly overclockable, well-priced, and reliable as can be. Great buy!

Optics and Resolution

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash Type I or Type II cards in uncompressed RAW format or one of three compressed JPEG formats. The camera uses a USB 1.1 interface and also outputs NTSC or PAL video with monaural sound. It can connect directly to Canon Card Photo Printer and select BJ Printers.
Movie Mode
It is possible to record video with mono sound in either 320x240 or 160x120 resolution. Total recording time varies depending on the size of the installed storage media, but individual clips may not exceed three minutes in length regardless of the available storage space.

I can't yet afford to buy this camera but, I used it for work when my company provided it while I was in Afghanistan. I used this camera to take shots from a blackhawk and was very impressed with the quality of the pictures. It did get grainy when I used digital zoom but, I have yet to use a camera that doesn't. When the price drops to my price range, I will definately buy one for personal use.

This is a very nice camera. The battery life on this lasts for several hours. The picture quality is excellent. It is fairly easy to use provided you actually look at the manual. It does take crystal clear, vivid color photos. I had used the one my husband borrowed from work to take pics of our new grand baby. My photos actually came out BETTER than the ones a professional photographer was paid to take the studio!!
It is well worth the list price of around $800. If you can find a deal like I did then I would strongly advise you to grab this beauty!

I have owned this camera for 3 years and am totally impressed with it.
The rechargeable battery is amazing. It holds a charge for a very long time.
I use it for ebay photos and it takes great closeups. My next digital camera will be an SLR and I will definitely consider a Canon. For now this camera still meets my needs.
Very durable camera.......2007-01-11
I bought this camera used in the spring of 2004. Since then, I have taken over 10,000 photos on many backpacking expeditions around the world. If the camera died tomorrow, it would have been well worth the money invested in it - but it still is ticking and takes photos today just as well as it did when I first purchased it. It's sturdy body and ease of use really made this a great camera.

This camera does a little of everything, video with sound as well as images. The pictures it takes can be fantastic. Unfortunately the subject has to be pretty still or in very good lighting to get a good shot. I took this camera to a soccer practice of a bunch of 10-year-olds in the daytime with heavy cloud cover and not a single photograph turned out. That included the few I used the built-in flash on (it couldn't focus). I also tried shooting some pictures at an indoor game that were disastrous because of the quick subjects (10-year-olds again) and low lighting.
Even during several outdoor games in bright sunlight it just couldn't hack it. I took several hundred photographs to get 30 or 40 worth keeping. Most of the time I was struggling with the camera trying to get it to focus and snap before the children ran away and out of focus.
I also took this camera to Hawaii for a vacation. It did much better when the subject stood still and smiled, but none of the evening sunset-shots turned out.
The camera also has a flaw in that the lens blocks out part of the viewfinder. This isn't much of an issue once you get used to using the LED to line up your shots.
On the plus side, this camera has a very long battery life and can use the Ultra II compact flash cards. The software was also very easy to use (be sure to read the instructions BEFORE loading it onto your computer, not during).
Overall, my recommendation is to spend a little extra for an SLR camera and leave this one alone.
