The Olympus D595 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom gives photography enthusiasts all the ease of use associated with automatic functions, but still gives you the option of full manual control, so you can experiment to your heart's content. With 5.0 million pixels and TruePic TURBO technology, images are guaranteed to be rich and highly defined. A bright 3x zoom lens (35 mm equivalent: 38-114mm) adds shooting flexibility, and the camera's 1.8-inch color LCD monitor lets you play back the movies and photos you've taken.
With the Olympus D595, shooting can be as easy or as creative as you desire. You can choose from 19 pre-set scene programs, including Fireworks, Portrait,Night Scene, and more. A special help function describes the selected mode and gives a sample picture to make sure you've selected the best setting. Additionally, this camera offers full manual control over the exposure settings so you can explore your full range of creativity. Shooting flexibility is further enhanced increased by the Super Macro mode that lets you shoot a subject from less than an inch away.
With the camera's special "re-size with frame illustration" editing function, you can choose from a variety of frame templates directly on the camera. Being PictBridge compatible, images can then be printed directly on any Pict-Bridge compatible printer, without needing to connect to your computer. But when you want to download to your computer, an Auto-Connect USB makes connecting to a computer simple via a USB 2.0 cable, with no software installation required. The Olympus D595 can also record movies and play them back on the integrated 1.8-inch LCD monitor.
Also included with the Olympus D595 is Olympus Master Software CD, so you can easily edit and crop images, organize them, create wallpapers, slideshows, and more. The camera also features a battery-saving sleep mode that helps conserve battery life, a built-in flash, 12-second self-timer, and 14 MBs of internal memory.

Reliable performance and flexible batteries.......2007-08-16
Good quality photos, reliable performance and easy to get extra batteries (AA) in a pinch. I like the ability to record a short sound clip with the still photos. Very handy when taking many similar photos that I want to make notes about when I return to the office. I use it to take photos of outdoor plants. The flash is a little weak for moderate distances indoors.
A great amateur camera..........2006-12-02
I've had this camera for almost a year now, and I'm very happy with it! Photos come out clearly, and you can load them onto your computer for editing or emailing within moments. There are also a number of easy-to-use bonus features, such as self portrait and movie clips. If you're like me -- someone who only takes photos on vacation and at family gatherings, wanting to capture the memories with good quality but no fuss -- this is definitely your camera!
Shutter Lag Decoded.......2006-07-07
To all of you out there who have experienced shutter lag...
Simple- To simply keep the pictures from blurring, turn the dial to "sports mode."
Advanced-To take super close-up or high res. pictures, set the dial to "manual" and set the shutter speed at at 1/60 or lower.
To the guy who wants to take pictures of himself...
Set your camera on a tripod. Go to Manual Mode. Hit ok/menu. go up (to the picture of the clock) and turn the "wait" on. The flash should then fire 12 seconds after you press the shutter button.

I was unimpressed with my purchase because of the 'shutter lag'. I found a review that shed some light on why this was happening to me. Here is an excerpt of what I found "...Shutter lag, the delay between depressing the shutter button and capturing the image, measured an impressive 1/10 second when pre-focused and just 4/10 second including autofocus. In single exposure mode, the shot to shot delay averaged 1 second without the flash and between 4 and 5 seconds with flash, depending on the distance to the subject. "
So, it seems that picture quality (resolution) and using the pre-focus feature can drastically affect the performance of this model.
serious problems.......2006-05-03
This was my Olympus camera; my previous digital ones were Fuji and those were generally superior. Here are my problems with this camera:
- There's a delay of a couple of seconds between pressing the button and the shutter clicking which really sucks for action shots.
- I've had some difficulty with outdoor scenic shots... there's a tendency for shadow-covered areas to come out very dark.
- Flash photos often look terrible.

An unprotected corrector lens will radiate heat, quickly cooling to below ambient air temperature, allowing dew to form.
