First Digital Cam...Still Impressed.......2007-01-28
I purchased the Vivicam 4345 in August 2006 before a vacation. This is my first digital camera and I really enjoy it. I found the camera very easy to use. The manual clearly explained the various settings and in which situations they should be used. Most often I use the Automatic setting and Evening setting for night pictures. The software included with the camera is easy to use and gives you many options for editing your pictures.
My advice is to not be fooled by the image on your LCD screen. Some pictures that I didn't think were so great...once uploaded on the computer looked better than I expected.
Also as mentioned in a previous review you should purchase it from Brand-Smart. I found the price affordable and with a memory card (I have a 256MB which is more than enough) I think I paid around $120 total. Cameras are always on sale there so you may find a better bargain.
It comes with a case, strap, software, and batteries (but invest in rechargeable).
Lastly the sales man told me that the camera does not record sound. WRONG! While recording video, the sound is picked up through the embedded microphone. Upon replay on the camera the sound is not heard. Once uploaded on your computer you will have FULL SOUND!!!
Hope you enjoy your cam as much as I do. It's basic form and superior function.
Stopped working after 3 days.......2007-01-07
I purchased a Vivitar Vivicam 4345 from amazon.com.
It worked fine for the first day; the camera was easy to use, it was easy to get the pictures onto my computer, and the pictures looked pretty good.
However, on the second day or ownership I was unable to get the pictures to transfer to my computer, and by the third day the camera would not get past its welcome screen when I powered it on. (When this happened, the only way to turn it off was to remove the batteries)
I tried all the obvious fixes: different batteries and a different memory card, and I ran through their sparse troubleshooting guide, but nothing worked. The camera is completely unusable, and I am going to have to return it.
I don't expect that this is happening with all of these cameras (I bought the camera because it had good reviews here on amazon), and this may be an isolated instance, but it appears that some of these cameras (e.g. the one that I purchased) have problems. If the camera hadn't broken, I probably would have given it 4 stars.
I have purchased other cameras through amazon (sony and canon brands) and haven't had any problems.
Pretty Good.......2006-05-03
I am not a really a technology freak, but this is a good camera for someone just starting out. It takes some getting used to as far as choosing the right setting for the type of picture/picture quality you want. But other than that its a good camera with good battery life. It gets the job done. (save yourself some money and get it from somewhere like Brandsmart where its cheaper)
Good Camera.......2005-11-29
This is my first digital camera and I am no expert in this area. However, I find the quality of the pictures quite good and this camera is very easy to operate. For the price paid, I think it is a good buy.

8x25mm right angle viewfinder for ETX-70/80 telescopes.

Tolerable sight, but just tolerable .......2007-06-10
In keeping with Meade's tradition of providing marginal sights for their ETX series of telescopes the 827 provides a tolerable sighting capability for the ETX 70 but suffers from poor construction and optical quality. With a bracket that utilizes the non standard mount holes of the 70 the sight provides a right angle sight (an improvement from their straight through sights). The sight will fall apart as you mount it and will require gluing to put back together. The crosshair will exhibit distortion. Usable but nowhere near the quality of an Orion sight of the same cost.
A must for ETX90 astronomers........2003-09-23
This finder, a standard on the ETX125, is a must for the ETX90 if one plans on using it for astronomy. The straight thru finder is fine for birding, or other terrestrial viewing, but is akwardly placed for most astronomical observing, especially near the zenith (overhead). The tiny screw used to hold the finder can be difficult to replace. Then again, it is still only a 25mm finder.
"This should be standard Meade!".......2002-05-27
I own a Meade ETX-90EC and it comes standard with the straight through finder. As most ETX-90 owners will testify, it is utterly hopeless for anything astronomical. Meade should be ashamed of putting this useless finder on their otherwise cool scopes. You can purchase the Right Angle Finder as an extra (which comes standard on the ETX-125EC) and locating objects manually will be dramatically easier, although not 100% suitable. It's a relatively expensive purchase, but will make your viewing time that much more enjoyable. Check out Mike Weasners site for the best information on ETX's and alternative finder scopes. Recommended, but check out alternatives also.
fall apart lens.......2001-10-22
The meade #827 right angle viewfinder arrived in less than a week. I installed it on my telescope with great difficulty, the allen head screw in the scope was rounded out and very tight, as I tried to adjust the focus the lens assembly fell into my telescope. I had to return the telescope as it had a defect in the lens (...)
Spend a little, save your neck.......2001-02-03
I love my ETX-90, but putting it on an object manually can be a literal pain in the neck. That's because the straight through viewfinder, which great for terrestial viewing, is not so good when you're trying to look up at the stars. (I assume this is why it is standard on th ETX-125 since that is more of an 'astronomy' scope).
The good news is this viewfinder makes finding things easier because you're look angle is the same for the view finder and the eyepiece. The bad news is that you're most comfortable view is to tilt it off to the side (away from the eyepiece) and that makes "driving" the scope non-intuitive. I also found it harder to align than the straight through finder.
On the bright side this leaves you with the original viewfinder as a nice spotting scope for your younger astronomers.
