Yes, a sub-$3 cable works just fine.......2007-11-06
I attached this to an old Apple LaserWriter Select 360 printer and it worked with essentially no problems, with both Windows (XP and Vista) and Linux (Fedora 7). With those operating systems at least, you don't need the driver CD that comes with it, either.
The only issue I had was with Linux, where at first CUPS could see the printer, but could not actually print to it. However, after I booted into XP and used the printer, when I rebooted into Linux, everything worked immediately. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it was simply the rebooting that straightened things out, or if Windows did some required initialization of the cable that made it work for Linux too.
The printing speed seems just as fast with the USB-parallel cable as with a direct parallel or AppleTalk connection, admittedly not much of a trick with a 15-year-old printer. All in all, well worth the (nearly nonexistent) investment!

Very Nice.......2007-10-29
Very nice backdrop, but not ready to go when you get it!! Not sure what they are thinking...but, it is PRESSED very neatly in a nice square! This will take a hot iron and lots of water to get the creases out!! Once you do, the backdrop is very nice. I also have the cinnamon.
