Five minutes old and already a piece of junk.......2007-12-19
I got this monitor from Westinghouse as a replacement for another one of their crappy 19" monitors that failed TWICE. The other one started flickering like crazy after 7 months, and I sent it back. A month later, I received a refurbished one of the same model (LCM-19V7). Five months later, it started flickering too, and then it would just go black. I had to endure repeated conversations with Westinghouse's clueless and condescending tech support staff before they'd issue an RMA (they made me try every single configuration, plugging it into other computers and outlets, as if it was my set-up that made it fail, when I've never had a single monitor from any other company fail).
Nearly two months and six phone calls later, in which I ranted at a supervisor who was rude enough to review the history and suggest I didn't do enough to test it, they finally shipped me this model, the L1928NV. The other one was out of stock (why it takes a supervisor to call the shipping department to find this out is beyond me), and they were just going to sit on it unless I badgered them. They were supposed to ship this two-day air to make up for the trouble, but no, it took a week to get here. Westinghouse has absolutely NO concept of customer support. Their reps, even the supervisors, read from canned scripts and use all the platitudes they think will pacify you, but they're so transparent it's both funny and irritating. I've worked in and consulted at call centers, and their set-up is pathetic from beginning to end.
So finally, after all this crap, tonight, we hooked it up. Wow, the screen is bright. Unpleasantly bright. So we reduced the brightness. A little while later, I noticed a buzzing sound coming from the monitor. We couldn't figure out what it was, so I Googled "Westinghouse monitor buzzing" and found several links where people said if they reduced the brightness on their monitor, it started to buzz. WHAT?! This is a brand new model, and Westinghouse can't figure this out? Please. Adjusting the brightness is the first thing people who are comfortable messing with their monitors do. Whether you use the instant brightness reduction (picture, text and economy modes) or go by percentage, it still buzzes.
I've had to reduce the contrast, and could only reduce the brightness to 95% before the buzzing starts. My eyes are sensitive to bright lights, and it's still too bright, so I'll either be taking a baseball bat to it for good measure, or demanding that Westinghouse find a way to reimburse me even though they're not a retailer. Although based on my experience with the other ones, and what the other person said here, it'll likely fail before I can destroy it myself anyway. The ONLY good thing about this monitor is that it's sharp.
DON'T EVER BUY A WESTINGHOUSE MONITOR.

About a year ago I bought a Westinghouse monitor. It died after about 7 months. Since the price was good, I bought a Westinghouse monitor (L1928NV) to replace it. It died after 5 months.
If you're buying a Westinghouse monitor make sure you get the extended warranty - you WILL need it.

I wasn't sure about the brand, having never seen or used a Westinghouse before. However, now that I've used it for a few weeks I love it. Sharp, colorful, easy to adjust. Money well spent.
